Supervisor and doctoral examiner


When a doctoral student is admitted to doctoral education a principal supervisor, and assistant supervisors are appointed by the department in consultation with the doctoral student. The doctoral student is connected to the principal supervisor's research group but has access to other research groups at the department as well.

The principal supervisor shall be employed or adjunct to the University of Gothenburg. At least one of the supervisors must have a teacher's qualification and at least one of the supervisors must have undergone supervisor training.

The principal supervisor will guide the doctoral student through the doctoral education, both regarding the course part and above all regarding the dissertation.

The principal supervisor is involved in updating the individual study plan.

Doctoral examiner

When a doctoral student is admitted to doctoral education, an examiner is appointed. The duties of the examiner are to ensure, together with the supervisor, that the doctoral student fulfils the objectives set for the education, and to examine and approve courses in doctoral education. The examiner will also be involved in the follow-up of the doctoral studies and the individual study plan.

The grade of licentiate dissertation is determined by the doctoral examiner.
