Hackaton: Mobile innovation for inclusion of newly arrived

We believe that creativity is innate to all of us, and that collaboration aids the creative process. Hackathons are events where people team up with the focus to develop, change and improve an existing system in a short period of time. With the Minclusion Hackathon, our desire is to create the opportunity for developers and graphic/UX designers to develop software solutions that will support the social inclusion of newly arrived migrants in Sweden. By the end of this two day hackathon, the teams will have the opportunity to present their prototype in front of a group of experts in education, technology, migration and native Arabic speakers.

As part of the research project Integration with mobiles, we have come up with four themes from which a candidate can select to work on during the event. Candidates are welcome to choose a theme and register their interests through the signup form. Each theme can be chosen by up to three different groups.

- Communication in everyday situations

- Roadmap to newly arrived

- Practice speaking

- Learning through authentic materials

An overall goal of the hackathon is to find solutions that can contribute to sustainable integration with mobile technology as a way for capacity building and sustainable investments in competence and development. A generic approach to these themes is through gamification; when done right, it really works.

The envisioned user is a smartphone user, Arabic speaking newly arrived in Sweden, familiar with the Latin alphabet.
